The Story

Wednesday 19th May 1790, Coast of Spain

Inspired by the stories and promised bounty of the Mediterranean, the Carter brothers had set sail in search of adventure, fame and maybe, just maybe, an exotic new spirit for the people of Cornwall.
After weeks at sea, they had arrived at the port of Alicante and wasted no time trading and bartering with the locals.
As John Carter stood on the walls of Santa Bàrbara Castle, he watched the crew load up the Phoenix in preparation for the dangerous voyage home.
As the sun set on the bay, he couldn't help but let his mind wander to the taverns of Penzance and the newly discovered gold rum they would soon toast him with.

Inspired by the Mediterranean adventures of the Carter Brothers, Cornish Distillers' Jess Shelley and Paul Robbins had taken their fearless crew to Spain to explore flavours, experiment with spices, and maybe, just maybe, be inspired to create their next product.
After days in the pool bar, they headed down to the harbour and wasted no time getting to know the local produce.
As they sat in Samoa Café watching their crew tasting new spirits, they couldn't help but stare up at Santa Bàrbara Castle and think of their hero now separated only by time.
As the sun set across the bay, and the first members of the crew started to wobble, their minds turned to home and the Gold Rum, they had now decided to set loose upon the world.
